When a workaround is approved
How to communicate a verified incident workaround
Publish an approved incident workaround with clear audience, prerequisites, steps, limits, customer action, and next-update timing—without implying recovery.
Confirm the workaround is approved to publish
Before publication, obtain the responsible team’s current verified wording and approval to share the workaround. If that approval is missing, expired, or ambiguous, do not present the workaround as available.
Name the audience and prerequisites
Name the affected audience, workflow, account type, version, region, or other approved scope, then reproduce every approved prerequisite. Do not imply that the workaround applies beyond that verified scope.
Keep the workaround separate from incident state
Present the workaround as a temporary customer option alongside the verified incident state, scope, and impact. Its availability does not show recovery or resolution, so keep the current state and remaining incident facts explicit.
Publish only the approved steps
Reproduce only the exact approved sequence, commands, settings, links, and cautions supplied by the responsible team. Do not improvise a missing step, simplify a condition, or troubleshoot beyond that source.
State limitations and remaining impact
State every approved limitation, tradeoff, side effect, or unsupported case and what remains affected after the workaround. Do not claim completeness or success from availability alone.
Make customer action explicit
State exactly whether the responsible team characterizes customer action as optional or required, who it applies to, and what completion can be confirmed. If no action is approved, do not invent one.
Keep the next-update commitment
Keep the same specific next-update time or defined state-change commitment used for the incident, even when the workaround is available. A workaround does not replace the promised communication cadence.
Align, correct, or withdraw it
Publish the same approved wording in every channel your team uses. Correct contradictions promptly, withdraw the workaround when its approval or relevance changes, and record what changed, when, and who owned the publication.
